Final
Image
After
some adjustments to the strobes power output,
the lighting is now much more natural.
In
this final image, the main light now comes from
the left. The fill is actually from the strobe
on the right that was directed at the engine.
I adjusted it such that the edge of the flash
beam grazed the side of the student. This solved
the problem of using another strobe for fill.
Now
that the student and engine are properly lit,
I turned my attention to the background. As shown
in the previous image, the background was too
dark at 1/60sec. To get the details in the background
to show up, I lenghtened the shutter speed to
1/8 sec. Come to think of it, I shot it at 1/8
sec, handheld. No tripods.
This
is a classic example of marrying strobes with
existing lights to make a successful shot. The
foreground, that is the engine and student, were
lit with strobes. The background was with the
existing ceiling lights. If I had lit the background
with strobes too, the shot would not have worked.
It would have looked artificial.
